The community of Chappell believes in caring for their small children. After supporting the Chappell Childcare Center for many years, the community committed to starting a preschool in 2007. The school board offered a free location in an empty classroom as a partner with Volunteers of America — Western Nebraska.

The Childcare Advisory board, school personnel and community people joined together to make this happen in a short period of time with support from the Thomas Buckley Trustees and a gift from a family foundation. The new Creek Valley Preschool opened after Labor Day with 30 children enrolled. Children eat breakfast at the school cafeteria and then go to their newly decorated room in the elementary school.

A preschool advisory board provides oversight and helps to raise funds for the preschool.
